Lira, Uganda — In a moment filled with pride, joy, and promise, Trust A Girl Africa (TAGA) celebrated a powerful milestone at its offices this week: the graduation of over 15 girls and young women from across the Lango sub-region, each of them now equipped with certified tailoring skills and ready to start their journey of self-reliance.

This graduation marks another major step in TAGA’s mission of empowering Ugandan girls through practical, life-changing skills. The young women, some of whom came from vulnerable backgrounds, were not only trained in professional tailoring but were also gifted complete sewing machine kits to kick-start their own businesses and empower others in their communities.
“This is not just a graduation,” said Madam Ayaa Christine, a community mobilizer at TAGA. “It is a celebration of resilience, growth, and the beauty of empowering Ugandan girls to build their own futures.”
From Skill to Self- Reliance
For months, the girls underwent intensive hands-on training in tailoring, fashion design, and basic business management. From stitching school uniforms to designing cultural attire, the graduates demonstrated remarkable creativity, commitment, and progress.
“To see my daughter hold a certificate today is a blessing,” said Mr. Opio Richard, a proud parent from Dokolo district. “A year ago, she was home with no hope. Today, she is a skilled tailor and a role model. I thank TAGA for not just empowering my daughter, but our whole family.”

TAGA’s vocational skills program is one of its flagship efforts to empower Ugandan girls and young women, especially those at risk of early marriage, school dropout, or economic vulnerability.
Changing Narratives One Stitch at a Time
Before this, I never imagined I could have a skill to earn a living. Now I have something of my own. My sewing machine is not just equipment — it is my future. I will work hard and also teach other girls in my village.

Her words echoed throughout the ceremony, as each graduate received their sewing kit — a symbolic and practical gift that marked the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey.
A Ripple Effect of Empowerment
The event concluded with smiles, tears, ululations, and dancing — a true celebration of empowerment and possibility. As TAGA continues to reach out to the world with love, its impact across Lango and beyond is growing stronger.
Every stitch sewn by these young women is a stitch in the fabric of change — a thread weaving resilience, dignity, and hope into the lives of many.
